2017 Santa Cruz Mountains Merlot
The 1st Merlot we've released in a couple years after not getting grapes in 2015 as a result of spring storms, it was aged in Appalachian oak for 2 years, giving it rich vanilla and caramel aromas.
For everyone who has that friend who "won't drink Merlot," we suggest covering up the label & pouring them a glass because this is NOT your mama's Merlot. Rich with ripe cherry, raspberry, blueberry, & a chocolately finish, this wine is much more than a stereotype. A subtle fruity, friendly texture make it approachable & delicious. However, for a more smoky, layered offering with notes of tobacco & earth, try it in a few more years.
Lamb brings out the depth & earthiness of this wine, while the fruit forward palate & silky mouthfeel make a rich pairing with cream-based sauces. Classic cheese pairings include Camembert, Gruyere, & Pecorino Toscano are always a big hit.

On the palate, the wine is smooth and well-structured. Lush flavors of raspberry and cherry lead the way, giving the wine an initial burst of freshness. The blueberry adds depth, bringing a juicy sweetness that is beautifully balanced by the wine’s natural acidity. As the wine develops, the tobacco notes come to the forefront, contributing a refined earthy complexity with hints of spice and smoke, adding intrigue to the mid-palate.
