2018 Livermore Valley Cabernet Franc
We're excited to announce our third vintage of Cabernet Franc from this incredible vineyard. The grapes were harvested by hand, and then crushed and fermented in small batches before spending twenty-six months in a mix of French and American oak barrels.
As usual with these grapes, production was small: less than 105 cases were produced from a small crop of intensely aromatic, spicy grapes. Expect strawberries upfront with blackberries on the back palate and a spicy, white pepper finish. Pair this wine with pork chops or a tri-tip sandwich. Enjoy it while it lasts.
WINEMAKER'S TASTING NOTES:
The 2018 Cabernet Franc from Livermore Valley opens with an inviting bouquet of ripe blackberry and strawberry jam, offering a lush and vibrant fruit-forward profile. As the wine evolves, layers of black pepper, spice, and hints of cinnamon and nutmeg add a warm, aromatic complexity that draws you in. Subtle notes of cherry pie emerge, adding a touch of sweetness to the nose.
On the palate, the wine is bold and expressive, with rich fruit flavors of blackberry and cherry pie complemented by a smooth texture and a balanced acidity. The black pepper and spice notes continue to develop, creating a lingering finish that highlights the wine's complexity. The wine’s integrated tannins and nuanced oak aging provide structure, making this Cabernet Franc an excellent companion to roasted meats, grilled vegetables, or a variety of hard cheeses.
