“Montage” is Big Dog Vineyards’ proprietary name used for our Red Blends. Born in 2011 from a lackluster harvest of our esteemed Cabernet Franc grape, our winemaker decided to blend it with Cabernet Sauvignon creating our first ever blend.
Since then, we have had six different vintages of our Montage, each year a little different, highlighting the best of each grape from each vineyard from a particular year.
This, our sixth vintage of our Montage blend is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot & Malbec giving it a decadent dark-fruit, chocolate-like palate. Out 2019 Montage is the ideal table wine, making it a sophisticated pairing just alongside anything you could think on on your dinner table, or of course, as an after-dinner treat with a good book by a fire!

The 2019 "Montage" is a bold and opulent blend that showcases the richness and complexity of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. On the nose, it offers a captivating array of aromas, starting with ripe blackberry jam and black currant, intertwined with a hint of plum and molasses. These dark fruit notes are layered with subtle hints of dark chocolate and baking spice, evoking a sense of both indulgence and warmth.
On the palate, the wine reveals a rich, full-bodied texture, where the lush fruit flavors of blackberry and black currant dominate, supported by the darker nuances of plum and molasses. The Petit Verdot contributes a deep structure, while Merlot adds softness and smoothness. A touch of dark chocolate and a hint of baking spice emerge on the finish, adding a savory complexity that lingers gracefully.
This blend is a perfect companion to hearty dishes like braised short ribs, grilled steaks, or rich pasta sauces. While it is drinking beautifully now, it also has the potential to age and evolve, developing even more layers of complexity over time.
