2021 Petite Sirah, Kick Ranch
As our 1st Syrah from the Russian River Valley - a cool climate region - we think it has a different character than our previous Syrah vintages from warmer areas, which had more ripe red fruit & baked aromas. This Syrah has more black fruit: plum & blackberry. Its savory nose of smoke & cured meat has a little grilled pepper on the palate. With such richness so early in this wine's life, we can't wait to find out how it evolves. Equally good with a salty Dubliner or Cheddar as with a nutty Manchego or an intense Gouda. If you're just looking to snack, roasted hazelnuts & green olives are great platemates. We also love to bring out the savory spiciness of this wine with grilled meats (especially ribs!) or blackened seasoning, but we have to admit that, sometimes, a bottle of this Surah doesn't last long enough to even get served with dinner.
